What's New in AccuRev 4.6?
Introduction
AccuRev’s SCM architecture has been designed specifically to simplify complex parallel development projects, ensure optimal team collaboration on Agile projects, improve software asset reuse, and accelerate time to market at a low total cost of ownership.Through AccuRev’s unique stream-based model, organizations are able to manage and dynamically adapt application development processes together with their software assets in a single user interface. This results in the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities in minutes versus days, freeing up developers from administrative tasks to focus on more valuable business related activities. AccuRev is the perfect balance of elegance, efficiency and power to help organizations minimize the risk and optimize the value associated with managing:
-
Geographically distributed and offshore development;
VersionSlider - Complex and multiple releases in parallel; and
- Increased adoption of Agile development practices
AccuRev 4.6 debuts functionality that addresses the productivity requirements of developers while meeting the process, visibility and cross-platform needs of managers. This release builds on AccuRev’s award-winning SCM solution for today’s complex software development problems by extending support for large scale software projects spanning multiple teams by providing the following new features:
- Change Package Dependencies – This latest breakthrough in AccuRev change packages enables developers, release engineers and team leads to visually identify and manage the issue dependencies between code changes throughout the AccuRev stream hierarchy. Issue dependency adds greater support for large scale software projects spanning multiple teams.
- VersionSlider – This new feature enables a developer to quickly see how source code files have changed over time in a dynamic, graphical display without the need to perform separate history, annotate and diff operations on previous versions of files. Developers can quickly perform code reviews, view file Diffs and determine what changes were made and when, just by adjusting the slider.
- More Flexible Symbolic Links – Enhancements to symbolic links help release engineers to manage complex code and project dependencies in AccuRev by supporting UNIX platforms and improving cross-platform capability to share files across projects.
- View Work-in-Progress at the Issue Level – AccuRev, which has provided teams the ability to view active files or transactions directly within the StreamBrowser, now also provides the ability to view active issues in any given stream.This top-level visibility into what Issues have progressed to what areas of your development process further abstracts the team from needing to worry about individual elements. Instead they can concentrate on the bigger picture: “Am I going to get this release out in time?” Or “Do I not have enough of my core features past the QA gate yet?”
- AccuWorkflow Enhancements– Development teams now have the ability to define, design and ensure compliance with an issue-based lifecycle workflow directly within the AccuRev SCM tool. Teams can incorporate and test new development processes, and can gradually update and improve their existing process. The result is a unified view of project status, issue data, and task assignments combined with the ability to manage releases through compliant and flexible process integration. AccuWorkflow provides project level management coupled with interfaces that allow individual contributors to see their impact on the larger context of a release train.
